In collaboration with the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE), Turkmenistan is actively looking into the possibility of hosting a specialized international exhibition on agriculture. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov made the announcement during a recent presentation on the future of Turkmenistan’s international exhibition strategy to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. According to TDH (Turkmenistan’s state news agency), Meredov proposed the creation of a dedicated fund to support the organization of the potential “EXPO” event, alongside efforts to engage major international companies.
The concept of Turkmenistan’s international exhibition activities for 2024–2025, which was approved by presidential decree in August 2023, is in line with the proposal. The initiative is a part of Turkmenistan’s larger objective to increase its global exhibition stage visibility and influence. Turkmenistan’s election to the BIE’s Administrative and Budgetary Committee for the 2024–2025 term at the 173rd General Assembly in Paris on November 28, 2023, was a significant step forward in this endeavor. The Secretary General of the BIE attended the most recent committee meeting on March 19, 2025, in Ashgabat, indicating Turkmenistan’s growing involvement with the bureau and the international exhibition community. Meredov also discussed Turkmenistan’s upcoming participation in two international exhibitions:
- Green EXPO 2027 in Japan’s Yokohama
- EXPO 2027 in Serbia’s Belgrade
In addition, he suggested creating a training program for Turkmen professionals involved in the organization of exhibitions and fairs between the years 2025 and 2027, with the goal of increasing the nation’s capacity in this field over time. The report was approved by President Berdimuhamedov, who also requested that Turkmenistan’s international exhibition agenda be further developed and praised Turkmenistan’s growing cooperation with the BIE.
This proposed agriculture EXPO could serve as a significant platform for Turkmenistan to showcase its agricultural potential, attract foreign investment, and foster technological exchanges in sustainable farming and food security.
